The Sykesville Memorial Cemetery Association is always looking for volunteers to donate an hour, or two, to assist with cemetery upkeep.

Having help in the spring, summer, and fall is very vital to the cemetery’s success.

In addition to regular maintenance, the cemetery association holds two major work parties per year, one in the spring and one in the fall.

Some issues include:

Ø Leaning graves are always a problem.

Ø Some years, it takes as much as 5 to 16 tons of top soil to fill in sunken graves.

Ø Fixing of roads continues to be an ongoing problem.

Ø Mowing the cemetery takes place twice a month or approximately 10 times from late spring to early fall.

Ø Cleaning garbage left in the cemetery, as well as cleaning of individual graves takes numerous people.
